San Antonio Breast Reduction - Austin Reduction Mammaplasty
Breast reduction surgery also known as reduction mammoplasty has proven to be a turning point for many of Double Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Eric Schaffer’s patients. If your breasts are large and heavy, reduction mammoplasty may give you rapid relief from breast, neck, back, shoulder, and bra strap discomfort. Irritating rashes between or beneath your breasts frequently speedily disappear. Also, symptoms such as a stooping, bent-over posture or slumping shoulders will often quickly improve. The emotional and societal stresses that you may be experiencing related to having large breasts often disappear soon after surgery. Clothing options will improve and it will be easier for you to find properly fitted garments.
Recent advances in breast reduction surgery facilitate an improved appearance with better long-term shape maintenance, a quicker recovery from surgery with less postoperative discomfort, and rapid relief of symptoms. Dr. Eric Schaffer, who is frequently named as a National Top Doctor and Texas Monthly Super Doctor, will offer you the opportunity to have an ON-Q pain relief pump following surgery. This ON-Q device delivers local anesthesia to the surgical site to minimize discomfort after surgery.
Breast reduction usually involves removal of excess, unwanted breast tissue, reduction of any excess skin, lifting the breast and nipple area, and when needed, reduction in the width of the areola (the pigmented area around the nipple). This makes the nipple/areola area more in proportion to your new smaller, shapely uplifted breasts.
At your private thorough consultation with cosmetic surgeon Dr. Eric Schaffer, your symptoms, physical attributes, and goals will be thoroughly explored. Your breast size will be reduced according to your desires and your breasts will be lifted to give you a more pleasing appearance. To put you at ease, you will be invited to Dr. Eric Schaffer’s office the business day prior to surgery to once again discuss your goals, review the reduction mammoplasty procedure, and to have preoperative markings applied in a calm, relaxed atmosphere. Dr. Schaffer believes that designing a careful, well thought out blueprint for your procedure is the key to obtaining a consistently reliable outcome.
Since most patients who choose breast reduction do so for relief of symptoms, reduction mammoplasty is often covered by insurance. Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Eric Schaffer and his friendly professional staff will help you through the process of obtaining coverage for reduction mammoplasty from your insurance company.
Small/Minimal Incision Breast Reduction
Liposuction Breast Reduction
Breast reduction/reduction mammoplasty in the United States of America is most commonly performed through an anchor type incision or lollipop shaped incision. While the incisions do result in permanent scars, they generally heal nicely enough that they are well tolerated. If you have a history of unfavorable scars (i.e., keloids), do not need any skin excision or lifting, or have a strong desire to preserve a breastfeeding option, minimal incision breast reduction may be a satisfactory alternative. Minimal or small incision breast reduction can sometimes be performed with liposuction. One or more small incisions will be made, and excess breast and fatty tissue can be extracted using suction-assisted lipectomy (liposuction). With the excess weight removed, many symptoms associated with large breasts (i.e. mammary hypertrophy/gigantomastia) may disappear. However, this procedure does not generally elevate the breast or nipple area much, and may cause, in some instances, a more droopy, deflated appearance of the breasts. In many instances, the breast tissue is too dense to effectively remove enough tissue to obtain a satisfactory result with liposuction alone. If conversion to a standard breast reduction (reduction mammoplasty) is agreed on by you at your consultation before surgery, the procedure can be converted to a standard breast reduction if liposuction reduction proves to be incomplete or unsatisfactory. In any event, Double Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Eric Schaffer will try his best to help you achieve your goals.
