Considering Injectables? Let’s Talk!

It’s next to impossible not to hear about beauty treatments like Botox and dermal fillers these days. We now know that most of the celebrity faces we admire have had at least a little maintenance with injectables and other innovative modalities. The fact that injectable anti-aging treatments are so common also means that a fair amount of confusion may exist about how they work and when it may be the right time to look into treatment. Where confusion exists, we also see the dragging of feet.

As we move straight into the holiday season and brand-new year, many of us are considering ways we want to feel better. This often involves reflection about how we are taking care of our body and how we may best support aesthetic goals. There is no time for feet-dragging here, so let’s get to the facts about injectable treatments.

There is No “Right Age”

Botox first gained FDA approval more than ten years ago. At that time, approved usage was limited to the correction of glabellar lines or frown lines. Usually, this type of aging is seen in a person of a certain age. As the development of injectables has progressed, we have witnessed enormous expansion regarding usage. What has continued, however, is the perception of injectables being “anti-aging” or wrinkle treatments. The truth is there is no right age for injectables to benefit your appearance. Adults in their twenties commonly seek treatment to plump the lips and even prevent wrinkles from forming prematurely.

Every Person is Unique

What does this mean, that every person is unique? It means that we all function differently, right down to how the body metabolizes fat and other substances. Botox and dermal fillers are temporary because the body metabolizes them. With every person being unique, it is difficult to say how long this metabolism of the product will take. Botox lasts from 3 to 6 months. The window is large to account for that uniqueness we are talking about. Fillers are slightly different. Some last up to nine months, while others last up to two years. Your practitioner can help you determine which filler product will best achieve your goals.
